Weekly Round Up Nov 1st

First Team

Isthmian League North

Stowmarket Town 1
Tilbury 4

Match Report: Iain van der Ree

Buoyed by their win on Saturday, an understrength Stowmarket side started the match confidently and dominated much of the early possession without creating too many chances.  A cross from a well drilled Tilbury side broke the deadlock when it hit the hand of a defender and Lewis Smith put away a resultant penalty. Jack Ainsley immediately struck back for Stow from the penalty spot to bring the sides level at 1-1 at half time.

The second half started to mirror much of the first with Stowmarket hitting the woodwork twice.  Smith again put the visitors ahead through another penalty & the crowd of 260 at Greens Meadow knew it wasn’t going to be their night when a deflected shot from Roman Campbell increased Tilbury’s lead. Stow were unlucky not to be awarded a 2nd penalty of their own in a goalmouth scramble with the ball seemingly being handled on the line. Ola Ogunwamide’s 90th minute deflected goal completed a tough evening for the Suffolk side.

With no first team game this weekend the reserves were in action against Woodbridge Town Reserves at Greens Meadow. Stowmarket Town Reserves managed to come away with a 3-2 win.

Here is what reserves manager Craig Brown had to say
“Saturday we won 3-2 Jacob Rasheedi with a hatrick we started the game slow going down 1-0 in the first minute of the game we lost our two strikers & goal keeper injured playing for the U18s Thursday Ryan capon Reon Huckvale & top scorer jack Wharton-Rhichardson so was always going to be a tough ask but I’m proud of the lads getting the job done under the circumstances, but we responded by taking a 2-1 half time lead, 10 mins in to the Second Half we made it 3-1 Jacob completing his hatrick with a well taking finish, we then conceded late on to set up a Nervy last 10 minutes but we hold on for a deserved 3 points, we now look forward to away v cornard res on Saturday hopefully making it 5 wins on The spin but will be another tough test, I was happy with the 82 crowd thanks for your support Up the Stow”
