Sweeney Agrees To Stay
Stowmarket Town are delighted to announce that Robbie Sweeney has agreed to stay with the club for another year.
The winger has made 89 appearances for the Old Gold and Blacks since joining from Premier Division rivals Wroxham in 2018.
The 24-year-old has become a firm fans’ favourite at Greens Meadow, scoring 18 times and winning several man of the match awards during his three years at the club so far.
Stow manager Paul Musgrove confirmed on Thursday that Sweeney is the first player from the 2020-21 squad to have agreed to remain at the club for the next campaign.
“I’m delighted that Robbie has committed with us for another season,” Musgrove said.
“We’ve been together for the last three years and I’ve enjoyed working with him.
“I know a lot of the supporters enjoy watching him play and there’s still room for growth with Robbie to get even better. I’m looking forward to trying to get that out of him when we start up again.”
Sweeney, who spent time at both Norwich City and Stevenage as a youngster, was also pleased to have secured his future at Greens Meadow for the 2021-22 season.
“As soon as Muzz spoke to me about staying another year, I was sold straight away. I didn’t want to go anywhere else,” he said.
“I think without Covid we would have got promoted (in 2019-20), and it’s been very stop start since then.
“The people that pay their money and come through the gate, I want to say that their support doesn’t go unrecognised by the players.
“It’s a big part of why I wanted to stay here. We’re all missing it and we can’t wait to get back at it and playing games again.”
