Match Report: Iain van der Ree

Stowmarket exit the FA Trophy after a penalty shootout at Greens Meadow against Great Wakering on Saturday.

Stow manager Paul Musgrove was looking for that something extra from his players after Tuesday’s FA Cup defeat and his team started positively against the South Essex side. Against the run of play however, it was a Mitchell Gilbey strike on goal early in the game that put the visitors ahead, it didn’t take the home side long to reply when a well-executed pass found Reggie Lamb in space for a simple equaliser in the 18th minute to make it 1-1, which remained the score at the break.

Stowmarket dominated the second half as they looked for the elusive winning goal and as in previous games couldn’t find that cutting edge from the numerous chances presented. The match finished at 1-1 and straight into the lottery of a penalties, Stow comfortably put away their first 3 efforts with Rovers taking advantage of subsequent misses to take the win (3-4).
