Stowmarket Town are excited to announce the club has been promoted to the Isthmian League.
For the first time in the club’s 138-year history, the Old Gold and Blacks will compete at Step 4 of the non-league pyramid, following this afternoon’s restructure being revealed by the FA.
The 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons have both been disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, with Stow having won 27 and drawn eight of their 35 league fixtures played across the two campaigns.
Factoring in results from the previous two seasons, the FA have elevated Stow from Step 5 (Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division) to Step 4 (Isthmian League North Division) for the 2021-22 season.
“It’s huge for the club,” Stow manager Paul Musgrove said. “(The FA restructure) has been talked about a lot over the last six weeks, but you just never quite know how these things are going to go.
“I’ve got to thank everyone who has played their part. From top to bottom at the club, the staff, committee, everyone in the background does their bit and puts in their time and effort.
“I need to thank Tom Morley for his continued financial support, and also the players. They’ve kept going week in, week out and got us where we are.
“A massive thanks to everyone involved at the club, past or present, and to the supporters. We’re going to need their great support even more now as we go into this new league.
“It’s a new experience for the club. We have players here who have experience playing at this level, while some others it will be new for them and they’ll be experiencing it with Stowmarket Town, which is an honour for us.
“I also think it is an ideal opportunity to acknowledge the people behind the scenes who work tirelessly for the other Thurlow Nunn League clubs, as well as our new rival clubs in the Isthmian League and around the region.
“The strength of non-league football in this area is a credit to all. We won’t be resting on our laurels. We’ll be looking to stabilize at this level and see how high we can go. I can’t wait for the season now and to start this new chapter in the club’s history.”
Today’s news brings an end to the first team’s long tenure playing in the Thurlow Nunn League, dating back to 1952 when the club joined the Eastern Counties League under then manager Jackie Little.
Stow will still be involved in the Thurlow Nunn League next season, with the reserves continuing in the Thurlow Nunn Reserve League, while the under-18s will be playing in the Thurlow Nunn Youth League.
The club is grateful to the FA for this opportunity to move up the non-league pyramid. The club would also like to thank Rick Andrews, Dale Brooks, our main sponsor Precon Products, all of our other loyal sponsors and our supporters who have helped us achieve this historic milestone in the club’s history.
