Stowmarket Town are thrilled to welcome striker Anthony Spyrou to the club as our first post-season signing.
The 21-year-old was formerly on the books at Norwich City, where he impressed in the under-18s and under-23s, and also had loan spells with Wrexham and Chesterfield in the top tier of non league.
After being released from his contract with the Canaries at the end of 2019, the young forward has spent time lower down the pyramid with Thurlow Nunn League First Division South outfit Holland.
Spyrou netted nine goals in 14 goals for the Essex side during the last two disrupted seasons, and will now bolster the attacking options for Stow manager Paul Musgrove at Greens Meadow next season.
“Anthony is a lad with great pedigree, his history with Norwich up to the 23s is there to be seen,” Musgrove said.
“Obviously he’s taken a little bit of a knock in confidence when he went out on loan and didn’t get the chances he deserved.
“Like many lads, he went back and played with his mates at Holland and tried to enjoy the game.
“It was a football connection, somebody at another club, James Bloomfield at Whitton, gave me the insight into him.
“Once I’d had the insight into him and went and met him, it was clear that he’s hopefully a lad who can get going again and propel himself up and see how far he can get.
“It’s exciting for Stowmarket to have someone of Anthony’s calibre and potential with us.”
