Reserves Manager Speaks: Season Reflection

As another season comes to a close, with our final league game this Tuesday at home against Woodbridge Town Reserves, I’d like to express my gratitude to the board, supporters, and players for their dedication and support throughout the season. It has been a challenging season, to say the least, with player departures and transitions to the first team. Consequently, I was unable to field the same starting eleven in consecutive matches, which made it difficult to achieve consistent results. This led to our 6th place finish this season, after previously being among the top 3 teams. Additionally, we fell short in both cup competitions, losing in the senior quarter-final and the league cup semi-final.

However, I am pleased to see Chris and his team providing opportunities for Kieran Morley, Joel Simmons, Ethan Turner-Wilson, and Ryan Capon at the first-team level, as well as Liam’s two lads, Zach Gaffer and Ollie Okey. It’s great to see more opportunities for youth and reserve players compared to previous seasons.

I’d also like to thank my captain, James Graham, for his commitment and hard work throughout the season, especially in adapting to his new centre half role. A big thanks to the rest of my young squad for their hard work and commitment during challenging times due to availability issues.

On another note, I’m grateful for Michael Dawson’s assistance during matchdays this season, as he also takes on the responsibility of running the line for us. His help has been truly appreciated.

I would like to express my appreication to our sponsors for their generous support. A special thanks to Robert Capon for sponsoring the Reserves and Christine Gillingham for her contribution. Your sponsorship is greatly appreciated, and we are truly thankful.

Let’s hope for a strong turnout on Tuesday to watch my young reserve team aim for a big three points to conclude the season. If you haven’t seen them play yet, this is an excellent opportunity to witness the future talent of our club.

Over the summer, we will work hard to come back stronger, strengthen the squad, and prepare for the new season ahead. On a personal note, I hope that the ups and downs of this season, including our cup competition disappointments, have made me a better manager, as I continue to strive for success at my boyhood club. Thank you all for your support, and I hope to see you on Tuesday night.

Up the Stow!
