Muzzy Wants To Start On A High
Paul Musgrove is hoping to get his reign as Stowmarket Town manager off to a high with a win in the Buildbase FA Vase this weekend.
The Old Gold and Blacks return to action at Greens Meadow tomorrow (3pm) for their first game in six weeks, following the lifting of the second lockdown, and take on Eynesbury Rovers in the second round of the national competition.
Cambridgeshire-based Eynesbury sit top of the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division, winning eight of their 11 league games, and have netted an impressive 40 goals already in all competitions so far in 2020-21.
For Stow it will be the start of a new era, after long-serving manager Rick Andrews stepped down and his assistant manager Musgrove took over during the season’s break, and the new boss is keen to start with a victory this weekend.
“The players are all eager to get on the pitch,” Musgrove said. “Fair credit to them. They’ve stuck to the routines and the sessions we’ve been doing.
“Let’s hope they can put it together on the pitch and enjoy it. It’s been six weeks since we’ve been together. Hopefully we can get a really good performance out of them.”
Stow will not resume their Premier Division fixtures until December 28 at the earliest, with upcoming games against Mildenhall Town, Stanway Rovers, Newmarket Town and Brantham Athletic all having been rearranged for 2021.
“At the end of the day there will be no excuses (on Saturday),” Musgrove said. “We’ve got an honest bunch of lads.
“They should all be working hard and putting everything they’ve got into it on Saturday.
“I’m looking forward to getting going and seeing what we can do in the Vase this year.
“It would be brilliant to get everyone behind us and fill the ground as much as we’re allowed to.
“I’d like to say thank you to everyone who does come out and support us on Saturday.”
Online sales for tomorrow’s game will finish at 6pm this evening. Any tickets left will be available on the gate tomorrow on a first come, first served basis. Click here to book online.
