Jack Hale grabbed all five goals as Stowmarket Town Reserves saw off Wivenhoe Town Reserves 5-1 at Greens Meadow on Saturday.

The young striker, who scored four times as a substitute in a 7-1 win against Woodbridge Town Reserves last December, was back among the goals at the weekend.

Hale netted all five of Stow’s goals as they followed up their opening weekend 1-1 draw at Holland Reserves with their first win of the season.

The victory pushes Craig Brown’s men up to second in the early Thurlow Nunn Reserve League table, two points behind leaders Walsham-le-Willows Reserves, who have won both of their games so far.

The Reserves host Thetford Town Reserves at Greens Meadow this Saturday (3pm).

Elsewhere, Stowmarket Town A kicked off their first season in League C of the Macron Suffolk & Ipswich League with a 5-1 defeat at home to Elmswell Reserves.

Carl Bowers was on target for Stow, but a hat-trick from Paul Cable, along with goals from Andrew Brookin and Chris Edmonds, sealed an opening day three points for Elmswell at the Cedars Park Community Centre.

Next up for the A team is a trip to Somersham Reserves this Saturday (2.30pm).
