Isthmian League North
Great Wakering Rovers 0
Stowmarket Town 2
Match Report: Connor Ellis
Stowmarket secure league leader status with a professional performance against Great Wakering.
Stowmarket travelled to Burrows Park in the full knowledge that a win would guarantee the Suffolk side the top spot in the league title chase. Manager Paul Musgrove had the rare luxury of naming a near full strength team who duly set about Rovers from the kick-off. It took just 3 minutes for Stow to go ahead, when keeper James Bradbrook, who is unbeaten in goal for February launched a huge throw to Luke Brown who played a delightful pass finding inform Reggie Lambe running through on goal and with still plenty of work to do, the Bermudan International rounded the diving Rovers keeper to calmly slot the ball into the net.
The Stow juggernaut continued to attack searching for their second of the afternoon which came near the end of the first half as Willie Clemons collected an overhit corner, drilling his shot across goal for Joe Jefford to fire home. The second half turned out to be a one-sided affair with Old Gold and Blacks frustratingly unable to take advantage of their dominance, despite numerous chances and closed out the half as Musgrove took the opportunity to rest players with his team’s promotion push very much in the forefront of his thoughts.
The league leaders play Basildon United at home on Saturday.
