Honours even as the Old Gold & Blacks draw away at the Seed Growers.
Stowmarket travelled away to Coggeshall for a match that was played in front of the Seed Growers second highest season gate of 189 on a sunny Bank Holiday Monday. Having secured their playoff berth on Saturday, Stow succumbed to an early setback when in the second minute of play Ross Wall side footed a looping cross into the net to put the home side 1-0 ahead. This seemed to awaken a tired looking Stowmarket team who pressed up field looking for the equaliser which came when Craig Park collected a delightful through ball from Manny Osei-Owusu to slot the ball between defender and keeper for his second goal in as many games seven minutes from half time.
Bermudian International Reggie Lambe simply doesn’t do ordinary goals and the travelling fans were not to be disappointed when ten minutes into the second half, Lambe unleashed one of his trademark sensational curling shots from outside the box into the far corner of the net to put Stowmarket ahead. The Old Gold and Blacks were to rue not taking the early chances presented to them, as Coggeshall seized the initiative from an Isaac Skubisch freekick which found Jack Hayes in the box to draw the sides level again. Duncan McNally in the Stow goal made a fine diving save to keep the honours even for both sides.
Stowmarket take on Brentwood next Saturday who earned their playoff place on Monday with an emphatic 7-1 win against Romford. A draw or a win for Stow would secure home advantage in the playoff match which takes place next week on Tuesday evening.
