Tom Bullard has been named as Stowmarket Town’s new captain.

The defender, who joined the club from Leiston last summer, has taken over the armband from Ollie Brown.

Brown has captained the Old Gold and Blacks since October 2017 and has led the side during a successful period, including last season’s club record run in the Buildbase FA Vase.

Brown will take on the role of vice captain, while Anton Clarke, Stow’s current longest-serving player, has been named club captain.

Bullard has missed Stow’s first two games of the new season through suspension, but is available again for tonight’s trip to Norwich United, where he is expected to take on the armband.

“At the time when we named Ollie as captain he was the perfect choice,” Stow manager Rick Andrews explained.

“We had just lost a member of the squad, and a lot of the players looked up to Ollie, the way he trains and applies himself every time.

“I just felt that Bully is more of a natural leader and he will give us that voice on the pitch, while Ollie does his talking with his feet.

“Ollie understood the decision, and we’ve seen from the first two games he has continued to perform at a high level, and will continue to be an important part of our squad.”
