Today marks one year since Stowmarket Town were announced as one of the winners of the Buildbase £100k Transfer Deal.

The club were awarded £25,000 worth of building materials to help improve the facilities at Greens Meadow, after a successful pitch from our FA grading infrastructure director John Griffin and former first-team manager Rick Andrews at Wembley.

Although most of the 12 months that have followed have been challenging due to Covid-19, the club are delighted with the improvements made to our facilities, all made possible by the Buildbase bursary and lots of hard work.

Work started in the summer to improve Greens Meadow and to meet the club’s objective of BUILD TO INVEST TO GROW, with the new Buildbase matchday entrance completed, along with a refurbished bar, community hall, a new community room and kitchen along with the fantastic new large community outside area.

All of these facilities will be available to hire out by the general public, which will help the club to reinvest to improve the facilities for the town.

“We managed to get our project closed off at the end of December,” Griffin said. “Originally the plan was to build a West Stand, with one of the key aspects being to provide more comfortable shelter for our supporters on matchdays.

“When the Football Association visited and inspected the area, we realised being in a flood plain there would have been a lot of ground work expenses.

“But they came up with a suggestion of the community area which, although it’s not covered, does achieve what we’re trying to do originally. It gives us extra space for fans and can be hired by the community.

“When we got the bursary, we didn’t want to put the £25k towards something that would cost us £100k. We wanted to ensure that whatever we did it paid for the whole project.

“We looked at five or six different areas for the project, and it has given us a fantastic base for when we can get back out there and use the facilities. It’s something positive to shout about.”
